For many years Scotts Valley was a sleepy retirement community nestled at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains along the route 17 corridor between Santa Cruz and San Jose. Although famed film maker Alfred Hitchcock lived here for nearly 30 years, it was the Silicon Valley Tech boom of the 80's and 90's that put Scotts Valley on the map. Several prominent companies such as Seagate, E-mu Systems and Borland have headquarters here and many of the 15,000 or so residents work in high tech related fields.
Scotts Valley is not far from Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay, and its beautiful, mountainous coastline is enhanced by tall, majestic redwood and pine forests, as well as 11 state parks. With a mild coastal climate (68 degrees F average annual temp. and relatively cool summers), a good educational system and easy access to Highway 17, Scotts Valley is one of the most sought after communities in the Silicon Valley. In 2007, home prices continue to rise at a strong pace and it remains one of the top real estate markets in northern California.
